Jesus said a long time ago that we are invited to love God with our whole heart and minds and soul and strength. Our worship on Sunday is one of the ways that we respond to that invitation. Somehow by the power of the Spirit, we find week by week that the weary are strengthened and the restless find peace and purpose. There is comfort for those who grieve and the music of laughter for those who are celebrating God's amazing grace. Our worship style is spontaneous and informal, but we also come with reverence and a sense of awe, because we have known something holy in this place. We want our gathering to share what we have known of the love and welcome of Christ. When you arrive, someone will greet you at the door and show you the way to worship. Upstairs an usher or a deacon will offer you a Sunday bulletin which has the order that we will follow for worship that day. We try to choose language and music for worship that welcomes everyone. Find a seat and make yourself comfortable. You will also find a "Welcome!" card for you to fill out and place in the offering plate later if you would like us to be in touch with you. Early in the service all of the children are invited to come forward for this time in the service that is set aside for them. Sometimes there is a story. Sometimes the pastor or others have a conversation with the children. From September to June, children leave worship following the children's time for age appropriate classes. If you have any questions the deacons at the door would be glad to assist you. You are encouraged, if you like, to take your child to class or childcare, and then return to the worship service through the doors the leave worship. Once a month we celebrate Communion. Everybody is invited to participate whether or not you are a member of the church or just visiting for the day. The Deacons will serve you in the pew, passing to you trays of bread and trays of cups. We eat and drink together after all have been served as a sign of our unity in Christ. There is a rack on the pew in front of you for your empty glass. Sometimes there are special events, such as baptisms and welcoming new members and presentations. These will be printed in your bulletin and you can follow along with the rest of the congregation. Both the pastors and the people in our congregation would love to meet you following worship. The pastors greet folks at the East Central Street door following the service. Everyone is invited for coffeehour in the vestry below the church after worship. Just follow the crowd. Be sure to sign the Guest Book near the door, and if you have children, we would welcome the chance during coffeehour to register them for church school or answer your questions!
